one day emperor akbar decided to test his courtiers. so he called for a meeting to be held in his court. once all the courtiers had assembled the emperor got down from his throne and drew a line on the ground with a piece of chalk. Now" he said to his courtiers . i want to see if anyone of you can make this line look shorter but with out touching it. he then looked up to see all the courtiers looking very perplaxed. ha! he thought" even my wise minister birbal cannot solve this riddle. no sooner that the emperor has thought so than birbal took a oiece of chalk and drew another long line below the line that the emperor drew. your majesty now the line you drew shorter compared to the line that the i have drawn,is it not so? asked birbal with a little smile on his lips. emperor akbar threw back his head and laughed heartily at his favourite minister cheekiness while admiring his quick wit as the same time.
